چکیده

The National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (NOSAMS) facility at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has developed an Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) system designed specifically for the analysis of C in a continuously flowing stream of carrier gas. A key part of the system is a gas-accepting microwave ion source. Recently, substantial progress has been made in the development of this source, having achieved ion currents rivaling that of a traditional graphite source (albeit at relatively low efficiency). Details and present performance of the gas source are given. Additionally, representative results obtained from coupling the source to both a gas chromatograph and gas bench are presented.

Design, Construction and Calibration of a Laser Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer

A time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOF-MS) developed in our laboratory at Isfahan University of Technology is described here. The TOF-MS instrument uses laser as the ionization source which provides an opportunity to investigate the ions formed in laser ablation or desorption. The TOF-MS has an ionization chamber containing an accelerator and an ion lens to focus the ions into a one meter line...

Optimizing a microwave gas ion source for continuous-flow accelerator mass spectrometry.

A 2.45 GHz microwave ion source coupled with a magnesium charge exchange canal (C × C) has been successfully adapted to a large acceptance radiocarbon accelerator mass spectrometry system at the National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) Facility, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. CO(2) samples from various preparation sources are injected into the source through a glass ca...

Rf Acceleration of Ions Produced by Short Pulse Laser

An laser ion source which produces bunched ion beam is proposed to enhance an acceleration efficiency of ion accelerator front end with RFQ linac. To demonstrate a production of an initially bunched ion beam, H2 gas was ionized by short pulse laser in an RF electric field. As a result, ions captured by the RF field were observed by an ion probe.

RFQ Reaction Cells for AMS: Developments and Applications

The use of Radiofrequency Quadrupole (RFQ) guided ion-gas reaction cells has been shown to be very effective in the elimination of a number of atomic and molecular isobars which have caused difficulties for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) measurements [1, 2]. However, the transformation of the equipment used for these proof–of–principle measurements into a system suitable for routine analys...
